Cyprus' Wine History in Brief
The first reference to Cypriot wine can be found in the Bible. In Solomon's "Song of Songs" Chapter 1, Verse 14 "My beloved in unto me as a cluster of Cyprus in the vineyards of Engadi..." |
- The wines were praised by Greek god Dionysos and his followers.
Worshippers of Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, celebrated with wine called 'Cyprus Nama" - allegedly the oldest wine known in history.

| 1191 AD: Cyprus wine was first introduced in England by King Richard the Lion King. |
| 1363 AD: At the visit of King Peter of Cyprus to England, he joined King Edward 111, King David of Scotland, King John of France and King Waldemar of Denmark at a banquet at Vintners Hall. At the feast of the five kings, Commanderia was used to toast. |
| Ca 1580 AD: Queen Elizabeth I granted Sir Walter Raleigh the sole agency for Cyprus wines. |
